Welcome Post: Self-Care is a Radical Act
IN THE ERA OF THE NEW NORMAL
We cannot fight what we don’t fully understand. Wellness is a journey of internal work, not just a commoditized destination—and it is our job to reclaim it. Audre Lorde famously said, “caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” We are desperately in need of a paradigm shift for ourselves and the world. Over the last decade, I have delved deep into my personal wellness journey and have understood that in order to reach the happiness and wellbeing most of us are seeking we have to take action. Standing up for the inner parts of ourselves that did not have a voice or were afraid of speaking up. My daily practices help support the hardest of days and this helped developed a deep sense of self-efficacy and inner trust. I respect bio-individually and honor my client’s story just the same care I treat my own. I believe in the power of deep healing and thriving as a state of being, not just surviving.
ABOUT THIS PLATFORM
This platform is for you to connect to other women and other stories. To bring different perspectives about healing and approaches. One of the biggest challenges I see in my clinical work too often is that high performers or underperforms alike struggle with self-image. Whether they are misunderstood or not seen enough, they fear what would happen if they actually showed up as themselves. We all build protective walls when things are not safe. My hope with this editorial is to give a voice to those stories. They matter and we care.
I am passionate about seeing people thrive and connect with themselves and others in new ways. There is something special about tapping into inner worth and joy. Wellness is a tool not luxury, it is a path into wellbeing and longevity. Together, I hope to explore how the industry may looked at illness and covered it all up with luxury spas, CBD product, and Palo Santo. Unfortunately, creating an impression that it has to look or cost a certain amount. This leads unsustainable practices and disappointment. I want you to find true value in wellness.
"let's move into wellness together"
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines self-care as the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a health care provider. At its core it is a decision making process that can empower you to look after your own health efficiently on your own or in collaboration with health and social care professionals as needed. Some things that self-care involve are:
Making health lifestyle choices
Avoiding unhealthy lifestyle habits, i.e. smoking & excessive alcohol use
Making responsible use of prescription and non-prescription medicines
Recognition of symptoms in order to seek support when necessary
Self-monitoring for improvement or deterioration
Self-efficacy and confidence in meeting life demands and daily stressors
It's easier said than done. That’s why I founded a practice that honors not just the self but community as well. I am inspired to continue to educate and empower women and men to step outside of their perspective and connect to others, to learn. I am eager to work with creative leaders, professionals and change makers who push boundaries, want to take bold actions, and design the life they have always dreamed about. In order to build a better world, you must make you (and your body) a safe place to live in first. We are wired for connection and this is our goal. I am on a mission to bring together some of the brightest people in New York City, Florida and across the world interested in taking care of themselves to effectively show up for others. I hope to bring a wide range of ideas based on the latest science and personal experience to provide more knowledge and reliable information on the intersection of wellness and humanity. I am so proud to present the special guests to come–thanks for joining me.
